Newcastle working on signing 24-yr-old ‘much cheaper than Marc Guehi’ – sources

Newcastle United are working on a deal to sign Sevilla star Loic Bade in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the defender could be available for £30-40million – much cheaper than a potential deal for Marc Guehi.

Crystal Palace’s £75million valuation of the 24-year-old is set to drop in January as he will have just 18 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

However, well-connected recruitment expert and former Man United scout Mick Brown previously told Football Insider that the Eagles are reluctant to re-enter talks with Newcastle over the defender.

Sevilla, meanwhile, are struggling financially, and could be tempted to accept significant offers for Bade in a bid to raise funds.

The six-cap France international has started eight of their 12 La Liga games so far this season amid a poor start which has seen them win just four and drop to 13th in the table.

However, it has also been said that a January move could prove difficult to pull off, and any deal is more likely to take place during the summer.

Newcastle United plot move to sign Loic Bade from Sevilla

Signing a new centre-back has been a priority for Eddie Howe’s side due to significant injuries suffered by Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

However, they missed out on a deal for Guehi late in the summer transfer window after failing to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace when the Eagles upped their asking price.

While the interest in Guehi lingers and the recruitment team are keen to explore the possibility of a cheaper deal for the England international, they have also begun assessing alternatives.

Bade has emerged as an option near the top of their list of targets given his experience both in La Liga and for France on the international stage.

The Magpies have also been linked with a move to sign 20-year-old Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov, as Paul Robinson told Football Insider they want to add pace to their back line.
