‘Newcastle’s huge investment to be revealed imminently – this is big’

Newcastle United’s plans for a stadium redevelopment could be released as early as the start of the new Premier League season.

For around two years, Newcastle have been working to upgrade St James’ Park, in order to increase the overall capacity.

Currently, the famous ground can hold 52,000 fans, but after the Magpies’ recent success, the need for extra seats has been apparent.

The club had set an internal deadline of early 2025 to release an announcement about the situation, but so far there has been no update on the matter.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Newcastle may reveal news of any potential changes once the season starts.

Newcastle stadium plans spark thousands of complaints

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness revealed that there had been “thousands of complaints” regarding Newcastle’s planned redevelopment or relocation.

The Magpies have also considered the possibility of moving to a new site rather than revamping St James’ Park.

Wyness added that the Newcastle hierarchy should take their time over such a big investment, as it could determine the club’s future for a century.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “We’d all expected it by now. I really thought the initial announcement would have been around Easter time but here we are in the summer and there’s nothing yet.

“I know there’s apparently been thousands of complaints about potential locations made already. I don’t know if they’re taking that into account and going back at the drawing board and re-looking at some of the factors that could be accommodated.

“As I know, as I’ve been through five or six stadium or training ground projects, these things are very, very, very complex with big impacts. Also, you’re setting the course of the club for a century in theory. So it’s worth getting it right.

“There’s no rush and there’s nothing to be gained by throwing things out quickly. So I trust the people involved completely to make the right decision and to go forward at the right time.

“If it takes even another six months or a year to get this right, it’s worth doing because this is such a big investment and such a big decision. Whatever it takes, take the time, get it right.

“I do expect something certainly before the end of the year, and I would think maybe even around the start of the season, depending on the scale of the issues that they’ve uncovered.”

‘Newcastle plan to accept Lewis Miley offer’

Meanwhile, Newcastle reportedly could accept offers for Lewis Miley this summer as they eye midfield reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the 19-year-old is keen to play more regular football at this stage of his career.

However, Eddie Howe is keen to strengthen in midfield this summer amid interest in the likes of Conor Gallagher in a move which could push Miley down the pecking order.

Football Insider revealed on 13 July that Atletico could accept £50million offers for Gallagher as Newcastle are keeping a close eye on his situation.
