Newcastle’s updated summer signing plan revealed after PSR latest
Newcastle United are planning to back Eddie Howe to strengthen his squad in a busy transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Magpies are planning to make funds available to Howe, but are keen to remain within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability (PSR) rules.
Among their priority targets are the additions of a new centre-back, right-winger and goalkeeper amid concerns about their current options.
Football Insider revealed in February that Newcastle want to sign a right-winger as their top priority despite the performances of Jacob Murphy.
The addition of a central defender has also been a key target since they missed out on a deal to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi last summer.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about Nick Pope‘s longevity between the sticks and they will aim to bring in a younger goalkeeper in the upcoming window.

Newcastle targets named ahead of summer spending spree
Despite missing out on a deal last summer, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Newcastle remain interested in signing Guehi.
The Crystal Palace and England star remains among their top priorities at centre-back, and they are hopeful of landing him on a cut-price deal.
That is despite Palace rejecting a £70million offer from Tottenham in January – the same fee Newcastle saw turned down in the closing stages of last summer’s window.
Meanwhile, Brown told Football Insider that Newcastle will look to sign James Trafford from Burnley despite their promotion to the Premier League.
The Magpies are aiming to qualify for the Champions League and their place in European football should allow them to tempt Trafford to the club.

Jonathan Tah update emerges amid Real Madrid interest
The addition of a new centre-back has been among the very top priorities for Howe since last summer, and they have identified a number of candidates for the role.
Football Insider revealed on 9 May that Newcastle are aiming to sign Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen upon the expiry of his contract next month.
However, they will face intense competition for his services as the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are keeping a close eye on his situation.
The Magpies have turned their attentions to Tah after Football Insider revealed Newcastle will miss out on Nico Schlotterbeck, who is set to sign a new deal with Dortmund.
