Next Rangers manager: Clear favourite to replace Russell Martin named
Russell Martin was sacked by Rangers following a disastrous start to the season and the process to find his replacement has already begun.
Rangers drew 1-1 with Falkirk on 5 October after goals from Bojan Miovski and Henry Cartwright, leading to the manager’s dismissal later that evening.
Martin had been fighting for his job for weeks, while Rangers fans widely called for him to be sacked after winning just one of their opening seven league games.
A number of managers are being considered for the role, including the likes of Danny Rohl, formerly of Sheffield Wednesday and ex-Everton boss Sean Dyche.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 6 October that Rangers have a four-man shortlist, including both Rohl and Dyche alongside Kevin Muscat and Steven Gerrard.

Steven Gerrard the ‘clear favourite’ to take over at Rangers
Football Insider revealed on 6 October that Gerrard would jump at the chance to return to Rangers, having previously managed at Ibrox between 2018 and 2021.
Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Saudi Pro League outfit Al Ettifaq in January, and remains highly regarded among the hierarchy at Ibrox.
That is according to former Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Gerrard is the clear front-runner to replace Martin despite interest in other candidates.
“It won’t be a surprise to anybody that Gerrard is being considered,” he told Football Insider.
“He’s got that relationship with the club and with the fans, so that’s already a plus point for him because he won’t have to worry about the bedding in process.
“Martin never really seemed to get the fans on side, that was one of his biggest issues, but we know already Gerrard wouldn’t have that problem.

“They haven’t got great players at Rangers, it’s unfortunate but that’s the truth, so they need somebody who is going to get the best out of what they have got.
“I think Gerrard is the clear front-runner when you’re looking at the names on their list.“
This comes after Brown previously told Football Insider on 30 September that Gerrard is a leading candidate to replace Martin after he is sacked.
Rangers appointment timeline emerges after 49ers decision
Football Insider revealed on 6 October that Rangers will take their time to appoint Martin’s successor and are keen not to rush into a decision following his departure.
49ers Enterprises have always taken their time over decisions regarding managers, both at Leeds and in their short time at Rangers, and are not expected to change stance.
However, their search for a new boss has not come as a shock, as Football Insider revealed on 21 September that Rangers had started assessing alternatives to Martin.

With four names on their shortlist, and a number of other targets believed to be in the running as well, the international break will give them time to find their man.
After Martin’s appointment during the summer, and the immediate issues that came with it, they are determined to get the next decision right.
