‘Nick Pope is back’ – Newcastle fans all say the same thing about Dubravka axe

Newcastle United fans have demanded that Nick Pope is brought back into the starting line-up following their humiliation at the hands of Man City.

The Magpies were thrashed 4-0 on Saturday (16 February) after an Omar Marmoush hat-trick and a goal from James McAtee.

Martin Dubravka was given the nod to start in goal, with this being his 10th Premier League appearance of the season.

The 36-year-old has managed to keep five clean sheets throughout that period, conceding 12 goals in the process.

Eddie Howe has opted to go with Dubravka since the 14 December fixture against Leicester City, with the Magpies only losing three times during that period in the league.

However, after consecutive Premier League losses the Toon Army are now starting to question if a goalkeeping change is needed.

Martin Dubravka could be axed from Newcastle team

Pope has played 15 Premier League games this season for the Magpies, but has only kept three clean sheets and conceded 21 times during that period.

The England international was taken out of the starting lineup due to suffering a knee injury, which led to him being unavailable for 10 games in all competitions.

The 32-year-old has not been brought back into the team since then in the Premier League, but he is fully fit and available should Howe want to change things for Sunday’s clash against Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle fans want Nick Pope back in the line-up

Newcastle fans have admitted it’s “time for Pope to come back” at this stage following Dubravka’s performance against the defending Premier League champions.

Dubravka is also out of contract at St James’ Park at the end of this season, while Pope has another year to run on his deal.
