Nick Woltemade: How Eddie Howe can convince wantaway Newcastle star to stay
Nick Woltemade is reportedly keen to push for a move away from Newcastle United this summer after a difficult first season.
Despite a strong start to the campaign following his £69million move from VfB Stuttgart last summer, the 24-year-old has scored just 10 goals in 49 games.
Recent games have seen the Germany international even dropped from the starting line-up, having been initially dropped deeper to accommodate Will Osula.
Woltemade may have hoped that a change in the dugout could see his fortunes improve, but the Magpies are set to stick with Eddie Howe for the foreseeable future.
Newcastle transfer chiefs will be well aware that the striker’s exit will result in a huge financial blow this summer, and there will be pressure on his manager to make things work.

Football Insider exclusively revealed last week that Woltemade is expected to push to leave Newcastle this summer.
Yoane Wissa was the other arrival to replace the departed Alexander Isak last summer, but he, too, could be on the way out in the coming months.

The DR Congo international has suffered severe injury issues, and despite having scored 20 goals for Brentford last season, has netted just three in a Newcastle shirt.
Howe’s usage of both players has been very limited. When Wissa did return from injury, he was used almost exclusively as a substitute for Woltemade.
In fact, the strikers have shared the pitch for just 146 minutes of football this season, and many of those came with the German in a deeper position.
Not once has Howe elected to start both forwards in a two-man strike partnership, despite the knowledge that some of Woltemade’s best form at Stuttgart came in a two.
Paired with Deniz Undav or Ermedin Demirovic, the 24-year-old thrived with the ability to play off his strike partner.
Woltemade scored 17 goals across all competitions last season when often paired up front – a fact that Howe appears to have ignored.
Anthony Gordon exit could pave way for change
Presumably, much of Howe’s reluctance to change his system, despite the awful run of form it has produced, is due to his wide men.
Anthony Gordon has been among the only shining lights for Newcastle this season, although it looks increasingly likely that he will be leaving the club.
Bayern Munich’s interest is reportedly well advanced, and the England international is expected to push for the move.
His exit, while damaging, could finally allow Howe to explore a new system and potentially look to get the best out of Newcastle’s assets.
