Nick Woltemade: Newcastle plan to accept new offer amid ‘talks’ over Bundesliga return

Nick Woltemade is increasingly likely to leave Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window as they are preparing to accept new offers for him.

The 24-year-old has endured a frustrating season at St James’ Park despite a strong start to life in the Premier League, and has fallen down the pecking order.

He has not started in any of the last three Premier League games under Eddie Howe, playing just 25 minutes in that time, and could now be moved on.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that talks may have already taken place for Woltemade to return to the Bundesliga when the window opens.

A number of German clubs are interested in luring the striker back to his home country, and believe a deal could be done as Newcastle assess their transfer plans.

Could Newcastle accept new offers for Nick Woltemade?

Football Insider revealed earlier this year that Newcastle are open to offers for Woltemade, and an offer of around £40million could get a deal over the line.

Bayern Munich were strong admirers of the Germany international before his move to England, and could reignite that interest if he becomes available.

Should Bayern’s interest fail to materialise, though, there is no shortage of interest from other Bundesliga clubs with a return to his home country most likely.

“There’s been a lot of talk about Woltemade’s future at Newcastle,” Brown told Football Insider.

“Newcastle aren’t quite convinced he’s at the level they expected, it seems to me that he’s struggled to adapt to the Premier League, and that can happen sometimes.

“He’s been in and out of the team under Eddie Howe recently, so they will be open to offers.

“A move back to Germany seems most likely as things stand, and clubs have already held talks over it whether it’s with him, his agent or with Newcastle.

“So it’s just about whether clubs will pay what Newcastle are looking for.

“If somebody comes in with the right offer, they’re going to be prepared to take it, and I expect it’s something he will be interested in as well.”

How does Woltemade feel about leaving Newcastle?

Alongside suggestions that Newcastle are unhappy with Woltemade and could look to cash in, there is also a belief that he is unhappy at the club.

Former Aston Villa CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Woltemade is unsettled at Newcastle amid growing concerns both on and off the pitch.

Uncertainty about his long-term future in the North East is becoming a concern for Newcastle, and another potential overhaul is on the cards this summer.

The Germany international was brought in alongside Yoane Wissa to ease the burden of Alexander Isak’s exit, but both have struggled to impact Howe’s team.

Wissa could also be moved on this summer should the right offer arrive, with Newcastle planning to reassess a number of positions in their side.
