Nick Woltemade should look to quit Newcastle if the latest Liam Delap rumours are true
Nick Woltemade might have to consider leaving Newcastle United in the summer now that it has become clear that Liam Delap will be available.
The 24-year-old has heavily struggled in recent weeks at St James’ Park, with Eddie Howe now playing him as an attacking midfielder in the hopes of getting the best out of him.
However, the hopes of him becoming the Magpies’ next top striker after Alexander Isak’s departure are seemingly over, with it being clear that he does not possess a consistent clinical threat.
Now, with talkSPORT on 20 March confirming that Chelsea are open to offers for Delap in the summer, with Newcastle interested, it will surely mean the end of Woltemade’s time at the club.
Below, Football Insider explores whether the Blues striker would be a significant upgrade on Woltemade ahead of a crucial Newcastle transfer window.

Previously, Newcastle were interested in signing Delap before his move to Chelsea.
The striker had an impressive season at Ipswich, netting 12 Premier League goals this season.

| Age | 23 |
| Height | Six foot two inches |
| Position | Striker |
| Clubs played for | Manchester City, Stoke City (loan), Preston North End (loan), Hull City (loan), Ipswich Town, Chelsea |
However, he has been unable to replicate this at Chelsea, netting just once in the division, which has led to Joao Pedro becoming the main man under Liam Rosenior.
As a result, Newcastle are keen on taking Delap on the Blues’ hands, and if this becomes a reality, Woltemade will surely depart.
The striker is already frustrated with his game time, and with clubs such as Bayern Munich sniffing around, it is hard to see how he fits into their long-term plans.
On top of this, according to Fotmob on 21 March, despite Delap’s lack of goals, the attacker is better many multiple areas compared to Woltemade.

Therefore, if Howe can get Delap scoring once again, it could prove to be a masterful deal by the manager.
Newcastle have to avoid a 2025 summer transfer window repeat
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness blasted Newcastle’s recent summer transfer window, believing that a lot of their current problems stem from this business.
Howe spent heavily on several stars, but there are few that will be considered a success.
On top of this, the lack of a clear heir to Isak has left the side without a clear goalscorer, with Anthony Gordon now seen as a potential answer.
If Howe wants to remain at St James’ Park, he simply has to avoid repeating these mistakes, or the next transfer window could be his last.
