Alex Bruce insists that West Ham need to do all they can to make sure Michail Antonio signs a new contract at the London Stadium.
The former Premier League centre-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the 30-year-old is a “nightmare” for defenders and that he is exactly the sort of player the Irons need in their side.
Moyes, as quoted by Football.London, revealed that the Hammers are yet to open talks with the striker over a new deal and that the club may wait until the end of the season to do so.
The hitman’s current deal is set to expire next summer after he penned new terms in May 2017.
Bruce has warned West Ham that they could lose the attacker to a rival if they cannot get a deal done quickly.
Bruce told Football Insider: “He’s definitely somebody that they need to build the team around. Whenever you see him play, he’s a defender’s nightmare – he’s strong and he’s quick.
“He carries all the attributes to be a real handful, he’s exactly the kind of player that West Ham need. I’m sure they’ll want to keep hold of him.
“If they don’t, there will be a number of clubs looking at him as well.”
Antonio has played 151 times for the Hammers since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2015 and has featured as both a winger and a centre-forward.
His current deal is said to be worth in the region of £70,000-a-week [Spotrac].
In other West Ham news, it can be revealed David Moyes wants to bin a Manuel Pellegrini signing he does not trust.
