Veteran defender Russell Martin has claimed his Rangers loan spell was a case of “wrong place, wrong time” after struggling to find form during his spell north of the border – and Gers fans have been quick to remind him of his own poor performances.
The 32-year-old told the Argus that the Gers were a bit “all over the place” during his spell at Ibrox – but admitted he “loved” his time at Ibrox.
Gers fans were less than happy with the defender’s comments given his performances for the Gers – with one saying Martin’s description of his loan sounded much like his defending.

Nice words from Russell Martin; who all but confirms that he's not in Gerrard's plans.

After joining the Gers in January, Martin was a mainstay in the starting XI as the Gers struggled to secure a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership under Graeme Murty.
The 32-year-old won a recall to the Scotland squad during his brief stint at Ibrox but his performances were nowhere near consistent enough to earn him a permanent move north of the border.
With a year left on his contract at Norwich, Martin also finds himself on the sidelines at Carrow Road and is likely to be on the lookout for a new club over the summer.
