Jack Grealish would be an excellent signing for Tottenham and other top-six Premier League clubs.

That is the verdict of Noel Whelan, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker who has watched plenty of the playmaker in action during his time in the Championship.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Whelan explained why Grealish would be a major asset for any top-flight side and is convinced he can now maximise the potential first apparent when he broke in the Aston Villa team in his teens.

The midfielder looked set to complete a move to Spurs in the summer of 2018, waving goodbye to the Villa Park faithful in the final game of the 2017-18 season ahead of what looked like a certain exit.

But Tottenham’s bids were rejected and Grealish signed a new Villa contract after a late-window takeover led to an injection of funds.

Football Insider has learned that Tottenham still keep tabs on Grealish and Mauricio Pochettino is a big admirer, but he is not alone there.

“No wonder Tottenham want him, he’s a brilliant player,” Whelan told Football Insider. “I’ve seen a lot of Grealish and he was probably the best player in the Championship when Villa were there for three years.

“Villa have a big job keeping hold of him, as all the top-six clubs will be looking at him. The only question mark over him has been scoring the goals his talent demands.

“Now that is starting to click, there is no limit to what he can achieve. He is destined for the absolute top.

“His price is going to rocket if he plays like this, and Tottenham will wish they had signed him last year when he was relatively affordable.”

Grealish has scored in Villa’s last two Premier League matches, both of which they have won, and has now netted four times from 11 matches in all competitions this season as well as supplied four assists.

In other Tottenham news, Paul Robinson has exclusively spoken to Football Insider about “horrible injury” that is a sickening blow to Spurs.
