New revelation about Payet from West Ham teammate

By Emma Sanders

Mark Noble has claimed he has not spoken to Dimitri Payet in three weeks as the playmaker’s relationship with his West Ham teammates continues to disintegrate.

Supporters were stunned when it was revealed by Slaven Bilic in a press conference last Thursday that Payet was refusing to play for the team and wanted a transfer this month.

The 29-year-old is regarded by many as the club’s best player but, despite signing a long-term contract last year, he is pushing strongly for a move elsewhere.

Bilic insists the club will not sell Payet but Noble believes it is the best thing for everyone if he does not play, though the skipper admitted he doesn’t know why the Frenchman wants to leave West Ham.

“I had – and I say had because I haven’t really spoken to him for the last two or three weeks – a great relationship with him, but I don’t know his reasons,” said Noble on Sunday night, as reported by the Daily Mail.

“I have always said he is up there with one of the best players I have ever played with. I am not going to comment on why he wanted to leave but I do know that if someone doesn’t want to play for the team then they are better off not even playing.”

Payet was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer among other clubs but his former club Marseille are believed to have huge interest since the revelation of his current situation.

Last week, The Telegraph claimed Marseille had tabled a £22.5 million bid for the attacking midfielder but it was turned down by West Ham.

Payet had an impressive summer with France at the European Championships but he has not displayed the same level of form he did in the Premier League last season.

The Hammers are currently struggling in the bottom half of the league table but Payet has still scored two goals in 18 appearances and provided a further six assists.

In other West Ham news, these are the three clubs Payet could excel at if he leaves in January.
