Noel Whelan has expressed his delight as Leeds United close in on the “absolutely brilliant” signing of Helder Costa.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-United striker hailed the Portugal international as “the finished article” who can be a matchwinner for Marcelo Bielsa’ side.
As revealed by Football Insider, Costa, 25, is set to be the headline arrival at Elland Road this week as he undergoes a Leeds medical and finalises a season-long loan from Wolves.
The winger has cleared out his locker at the Premier League’s headquarters and said his goodbyes to the Wolves players after three years at the club.
“Costa will be an absolutely brilliant signing for Leeds,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He’s an international star, a matchwinner and a game changer.
“If we can get that deal over the line, it’s really exciting. He could be a big player for Leeds next season. With his quality, he would be playing week in, week out.
“He ticks so many boxes – pace, technique, tricks, surprises and he will excite the Elland Road faithful. He’s played in plenty of big games and won’t be fazed by the crowd or the expectations at Leeds. He can deal with pressure.
“Costa is exactly the kind of player you need when you are going for promotion, and he will take some of the creativity burden off Pablo Hernandez.”
Costa is set to become the third senior arrival at Leeds in this window after the club announced today they have recruited Jack Harrison and Ben White on season-long loans.
Winger Harrison has re-signed from Manchester City for a second campaign, while centre-back White has moved to Elland Road from Brighton.
