Former Leeds United forward Noel Whelan insists confirmed new arrival Mateusz Klich has joined the “best club in the world.”

The Championship club announced on their official website and Twitter account on Friday morning that the 27-year-old midfielder had put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal at Elland Road.

Klich arrives from Dutch Eredivisie outfit FC Twente for an undisclosed fee, and becomes Thomas Christiansen’s first signing of the summer less than a week after his appointment as manager.

The 10-time Polish international scored six goals and supplied four assists from 40 appearances in all competitions last season.

Following his confirmed arrival at Elland Road, ex-Leeds star Whelan took to his personal Twitter account to welcome the new recruit to the club, and expressed his relief that their transfer business was finally underway.

He said: “At last we have lift off in the transfer market, welcome to the best club in the world.”

The arrival of a new manager at the club ahead of the upcoming 2017-18 campaign suggests Leeds’ summer recruitment drive will be far from complete, but Christiansen has worked fast to get his first deal over the line.

Klich will compete for a first-team spot the midfield alongside current senior stars Ronaldo Vieira, Liam Bridcutt, Luke Murphy, Kalvin Phillips and Eunan O’Kane.
