'Not fully convinced' - Newcastle fans react as club reportedly agree deal for 25-year-old

By Will Butcher

Newcastle fans are undecided on Twitter after their club reportedly agreed a permanent deal for Chelsea winger Christian Atsu.

Atsu, 25, spent the entire 2016-17 season on loan at St. James’ Park, proving to be an integral member in the Magpies’ promotion to the Premier League as Championship champions.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol revealed on his personal Twitter account that Atsu will cost Benitez’s side £6.5million, and the speed machine will sign a four-year deal.

Wearing the number 30 shirt in the north east, Atsu scored five goals during his 35 league and cup appearances for the Tyneside outfit including two goals in his last three appearances.

The Ghana international had just 12 months left on his Stamford Bridge deal, and it appears that Benitez has taken advantage of that in order to complete a permanent move for Atsu.

Newcastle fans cannot make up their minds over Atsu, with some claiming he was “poor” last season, but some fans believe that at less than £7million, he will prove to be a bargain.

Here is an selection of their messages on Twitter:

Atsu failed to make a single appearances for Antonio Conte’s side after moving from Porto in the summer of 2013, and has instead been frequently loaned to the likes of Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga as well as the Toon.
