Brendan Rodgers delivers response to Dave King claim about Celtic

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has delivered a subtle rebuke to the comments made by Rangers chairman Dave King about the Hoops.

King claimed, as quoted by the Scottish Sun that the Hoops would fold like a ‘pack of cards’ as soon as soon as the Gers won one Scottish Premiership title.

Naturally Hoops fans were outraged by King’s comments, but Rodgers was far more circumspect with his reaction.

“We always respect every team but I am not one to be looking over the fence at anyone else,” he said, as quoted by the Scotsman.

“I don’t think of it too seriously either way to be honest. My focus is on Celtic, this is a huge job here.”

King’s comments will no doubt be remembered by the Hoops board and the playing staff when they battle the Ibrox side next season.

King’s comments were ridiculous, and Rodgers’ has treated them with the respect they deserve, none. The Hoops are better off ignoring any noise that comes from Ibrox, as it is an attempt to draw them into a rivalry which these days the Hoops are above. The fans are unlikely to forget King’s comments though, and the players will no doubt take a dim view on what the Gers chairman had to say. The Old Firm derby was already going to be big box office next season because of the recent appointment of Steven Gerrard as the new Gers boss, and King’s comments will only add to that as both sides prepare to do battle for what is likely to be another bruising season in Scottish football, as the Hoops look to win their eighth successive league title, whilst the Gers hope to put up a league challenge, after being miles behind the Hoops since their return to the Scottish Premiership.
