Football Insider names Nottingham Forest’s biggest disappointment of 2016.
Nicklas Bendtner has been disappointing despite fans’ lofty expectations following his move to Nottingham Forest earlier this year.
The 28-year-old moved to the City Ground in September on a free transfer after failing to earn a move elsewhere throughout the summer window, following the termination of his Wolfsburg contract.
Bendtner’s return to England brought plenty of hype and media exposure, as Forest fans waited in excitement to see the 73-time Danish international pull on the red of their side.
However, almost four months after moving to the City Ground, Bendtner has made just 11 appearances in all competitions, scoring just two goals for the two-time European Cup champions.
Britt Assombalonga and Apostolos Vellios have kept the striker on the sidelines on occasion, as Bendtner endeavours to adjust to the physical rigours of England’s second division.
Fans had hoped that Bendtner’s experience at both Arsenal and Juventus would help him fire Forest towards promotion, after playing in the Champions League for both sides.
However, his inconsistency in front of goal has summed up Forest’s season so far, as they sit in 17th under former Real Sociedad and Rennes boss Philippe Montanier.
With his City Ground deal set to expire in the summer of 2018, Forest could look to sell their out-of-form striker rather the continuing to pay what is likely a hefty contract.
However, as he continues to look for form at Forest, Bendtner is his new side’s biggest disappointment of 2016.
