Nottingham Forest are ‘out of control’ after £145m reveal – Kieran Maguire

Nottingham Forest have lost all sympathy over their PSR breach and points deduction after they revealed their wage bill from the 2022-23 season.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the wage structure at City Ground is “out of control”.

Forest published their full 22-23 accounts to Companies House (28 March) revealing an overall loss of £62million.

Their wage bill more than doubled from the previous season up to £145million following their promotion to the top flight.

Nottingham Forest ‘out of control’ in build up to points deduction

With a revenue of £155million, it means that Forest spent 94 percent of their overall revenue on wages.

Forest were given a four-point deduction this season for a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules after overspending by £34.5million.

Maguire believes Forest will no longer have any sympathy over their points deduction as it appears that they have “disregarded the rules”.

If you take a look at Forest’s wage bill, it’s about £15million more than that of Brighton, who are an established mid-tier Premier League club,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

It shows that Forest were paying very generous wages for a club in its first season in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest

If you look at clubs that have been promoted over the course of the last decade, it is clear that Nottingham Forest’s wage bill is out of control.

Therefore I think any sympathy towards the club with regards to their FFP breach has been tempered because the club just appeared to disregard the rules.
