Nottingham Forest backed to win race to Morgan Gibbs-White for this reason – expert

Steve Cooper’s pre-existing relationship with Morgan Gibbs-White could help Nottingham Forest win the race to the player’s signature this summer.

That is the view of former Forest and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Gibbs-White’s future.

According to The Athletic (16 July), Nottingham Forest and Everton are leading the race to sign the centre-midfielder from Wolves.

The former England under-21 international has two years remaining on his contract at Molineux.

Sources told Football Insider (9 June) that Bruno Lage’s side will demand £25million for Gibbs-White following an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United.

Forest manager Steve Cooper knows the player from their time together in England’s youth set up and at Swansea, where he took the player on a brief loan.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the race to sign Gibbs-White, Campbell said: “He would be a great signing for Forest.

“Do not forget that the manager knows him. He knows him from the England under-17s World Cup win. That could be a key factor. They go back a long time.

“Gibbs-White performed really well last season. He proved that he is a top player.

“I think he would be a really good signing for Nottingham Forest, even at £25million.

“The manager knows him and has a history with him. They have won trophies together. That’s a signing I like the sound of.”

In other news, an expert has claimed this may be real reason Brice Samba quit Nottingham Forest this summer.
