Nottingham Forest ‘could be forced to sell Elliot Anderson’ as ‘very difficult’ situation arises

Nottingham Forest could be forced to sell Elliot Anderson and other star players at the end of the season as they will be put into a “very difficult” situation.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that allowing one player to leave could cause unrest elsewhere.

As a result of Forest‘s downturn in performances so far this season, there are concerns that their best players may have their heads turned by Champions League interest.

Football Insider revealed in October that Sean Dyche has no plans to sell Anderson in January as he plans to keep his best players at the club.

However, with speculation also surrounding the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo, Forest will face a fight to keep hold of their star names.

Nottingham Forest face difficult Elliot Anderson situation

Brown told Football Insider last month that Anderson is Man United’s top target and they are considering going all out to lure him to Old Trafford.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted Forest have to be wary of player unrest with their transfer stance at the end of the season.

There’s been a lot of talk about Anderson, Murillo, Gibbs-White,” he told Football Insider.

“Speculation around Nottingham Forest and their players will continue because of where they are on the table, as it does with every team, every year.

“If a team is underperforming, or that’s the way it’s perceived, their best players will always be talked about with moves to clubs higher in the pecking order.

“Unfortunately for Forest, that’s how it works, and it makes it very difficult to hold on to these players when they are aware of the interest elsewhere.

“You then get into a situation where the club have to make a decision, do they let him go? If they do, it could cause more problems if they make a different decision with somebody else.

“If they sell Anderson, say, and then block Gibbs-White from leaving, you then get the question about why one was allowed to leave but not the other.

“So it’s very difficult to avoid that sort of unrest. I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but I’ve seen it before and they have to find a way around it.

“If Champions League clubs come calling for Anderson like we expect they will, it could be hard for Forest to stop him leaving in the summer.”

Nottingham Forest eye Jorgen Strand Larsen deal

While speculation continues to surround outgoing transfers at the City Ground, Forest are also determined to bolster their squad in the January window.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 7 January that Nottingham Forest have sounded out Jorgen Strand Larsen about a potential move from Wolves this month.

The 25-year-old’s future at Wolves has been up in the air due to the side’s struggles at the wrong end of the table, with a number of clubs keeping tabs on his situation.

Forest are stepping up their interest in the Norwegian after losing Chris Wood to injury for a lengthy period.

Wolves are reluctant to sell Strand Larsen to a potential relegation rival in Forest, but the Reds are ready to tempt their resolve with a big-money offer.
