Nottingham Forest could land ‘£20m’ windfall after stunning twist – Borson

Nottingham Forest could smash their expected earnings for the season if they manage to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the club could be around £20million up on their budget for the campaign.

Forest have enjoyed a strong season so far as they currently sit third in the Premier League table after 23 games.

But Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are now just three points above fifth-place Newcastle United following their 5-0 defeat against Bournemouth.

Forest’s latest accounts for 2022-23 revealed their revenue reached a club-record £155million, while their wage bill stood at £145million.

Nottingham Forest in line for financial boost after on-field success

Borson revealed qualifying for the Champions League will provide a boost to the club’s finances after they were handed a points deduction last season for breaching the profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

“They were close for 2023-24,” Borson told Football Insider.

“If you were close for 2023-24, then you are almost certainly close for 2024-25 because they have got a very big wage bill relative to their revenue.

“Clearly, the Champions League makes a difference.

“It’s not just the qualifying for the Champions League, but you are up the places.

“If they were in the top four, I would think that’s going to smash what they thought they were going to get.

“They probably budgeted for 10th, so they are probably going to be £20million up on their budget.

“But then the flip side of that is you have got to pay all of those bonuses for qualifying for the Champions League to the players, which I would say is probably not far off £20million.

“It could be £10million.”
