Nottingham Forest could match Tottenham with controversial deal – Kieran Maguire
Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis will want a new stadium built so that he can monetise it in a similar way to Tottenham.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that moving to a new stadium would allow Forest to “future-proof” the club.
Senior figures at Forest are currently in discussions over whether to stay or move away from the City Ground.
The club are in talks with the Nottingham City council, who have offered a 250-year land lease of the City Ground for £250million or the freehold of the stadium for an outright £10million.
Alternatively, reports suggest that Forest are considering the construction of a new 50,000-seater stadium in Toton.
However, the proposed new stadium plans have caused controversy within the club’s fanbase with supporters protesting against the move in their recent Premier League match against Chelsea.
Nottingham Forest could copy Tottenham stadium deal
Maguire argues that a new stadium would allow Forest to monetise the venue similarly to Tottenham in their new 63,000-capacity ground.
“The advantage of a brand new 50,000 seater stadium is that Marinakis could future-proof the venue and facilities on offer,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“The ground could be multifunctional and potentially multi-sport as well.
“All of this would be beneficial when it comes to generating revenue.
“Everybody who has attended the new Tottenham stadium will see that it’s very much suited for the 21st century.

“Therefore, you can see the appeal to owners such as Marinakis who have seen how that ground has been monetised not only on match days but also fans coming to attend other facilities.
“The downside of moving to Toton is that there are weaker transport links which could cause logistical and infrastructure issues.“
