Nottingham Forest deal imminent after Eddie Nketiah latest – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted he expects Nottingham Forest to wrap up a striker signing well in advance of the 30 August transfer deadline.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Midlands club need to improve on current first-choice forward Chris Wood.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (23 August) that Forest are pushing to complete the signing of Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah after new talks.

It is believed the Gunners are holding out for their £30million asking price but there is optimism a deal will be reached in the coming days.

Nketiah scored six goals in 37 appearances across all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side last term – but started in just 13 of those outings.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have also been widely linked with Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez.

Nottingham Forest expected to sign Wood upgrade imminently, says Wyness

Wood was Forest’s top scorer last term with 14 goals in the Premier League.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “They really need this striker.

“Wood is a good backup but he probably isn’t the main striker you need to survive in the Premier League.

“It’s encouraging to see them there in this transaction so early.

“I think Marinakis is keeping his options open and negotiating as best he can.

“Both Nketiah and Gimenez are good options for them and I expect a deal to be done quickly, in advance of the end of the window.”
