Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson reacts to Liam Delap’s Chelsea milestone

Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson has reacted to a message shared by Chelsea striker Liam Delap.

The former Ipswich Town man scored his first goal for the West Londoners in a 3-0 win over Tunisian outfit Esperance in the Club World Cup on Wednesday, 25 June.

Delap has successfully notched a goal and an assist in his first three outings for the West Londoners and is set to lead the line against Benfica on Saturday, 28 June, amid Nicolas Jackson’s suspension.

Should the 22-year-old perform well against the Portuguese giants, he will bolster his chances of featuring regularly in next season’s Premier League.

The ex-Ipswich man scored 12 goals in the Premier League for the Tractor Boys last term, and has already shown his clinical tendencies in Chelsea colours.

Meanwhile, posting on Instagram [25 June], Delap wrote: “First goal feeling. Just the start!”

The forward’s message attracted a like from Nottingham Forest’s Anderson.

Club World Cup has heavily benefitted Delap

Football Insider verdict

This summer’s new Club World Cup format has come under heavy scrutiny, particularly regarding the impact it will have on player fatigue ahead of next season.

But one player who has reaped the rewards of joining a club who are participating in the tournament is Delap, who will look to continue shining in the knockout stages.

Joining a Chelsea outfit that boast aspirations of winning more silverware next season, directly from relegated Ipswich, could have been a potentially daunting prospect for the 22-year-old.

But the Club World Cup has handed the Manchester City academy product a key opportunity to settle into life with the Stamford Bridge club in a lower-pressure environment than the Premier League, but one which still provides competitive games.

If Delap only had the usual pre-season schedule following his big move to the Blues, perhaps he wouldn’t have established his attacking prowess for his new club so soon.
