Nottingham Forest face devastating ‘£60m’ blow

Nottingham Forest have been warned of the financial burden of relegation back to the Championship as they hover above the relegation zone.

That is according to football finance expert Dan Plumley who has exclusively told Football Insider of the implications Nottingham Forest could face if they’re relegated.

Ange Postecoglou is on the brink of the Nottingham Forest sack amid the clubs poor form which has seen them drop to 17th in the Premier League table and crash out of the Carabao Cup.

Nottingham Forest qualified for European football under Nuno Espirito Santo last season, but the now West Ham boss was dismissed after a falling out with owner Evangelos Marinakis which has led to the clubs downturn in fortunes.

Cost of relegation explained for Nottingham Forest

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley outlines why Nottingham Forest should be doing all they can to stay in the Premier League.

For Forest whatever that number is what you absolutely don’t want to do this season is to get dragged into a relegation battle, because relegation means £60million reduction in revenue overnight which is the difference between a TV payment and a first year parachute payment,” Plumley explained.

They know what relegation would cost them and that is the ultimate worst-case scenario. So, if you feel you do need to make a manager change, you’re looking it through the lens of its going to cost us but we need to absolutely stay in this league and benefit from the revenue so it’s that risk and reward scenario.

You don’t want to get relegated undo your hard work and get a revenue hit.”

Leading contender revealed as Nottingham Forest need to overturn poor form

Marco Silva is a contender for the Nottingham Forest job should they sack Postecoglou.

But Sean Dyche is the leading contender as Forest plot for the possibility of making what would be a second remarkable change of the season.

The Premier League is already much more competitive at the bottom of the table, than it was last season with the threat of relegation for under performing teams much more serious.

Nottingham Forest’s form also dipped off at the back end of last season, suggesting that this scenario may have always been on the cards.

The clubs current run of results cannot continue, and the ambitious Marinakis will not be afraid to sack another manager.

Marinakis has talked about, and supposedly brought Postecoglou in to win a trophy which the club will not be able to achieve in the Championship.
