Nottingham Forest facing fan boycott after stadium reveal – Keith Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed some Nottingham Forest fans “won’t go” to a proposed new-build stadium on the outskirts of the city.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs –
As per the BBC (8 July), Nottingham City Council has agreed in principle to sell the land around the City Ground to Nottingham Forest after a rent dispute earlier this year – but there has been no update on the deal since.
Before that agreement was reached, Football Insider revealed on 11 May that the club are ready to abandon plans to expand and redevelop the City Ground and are instead considering moving the club to a new 50,000-seater ground on the outskirts of town.
Forest are entering their third consecutive season in the Premier League and want to increase their matchday revenue to match their new status.
Some Nottingham Forest fans ‘won’t go’ to out-of-city stadium build, says Wyness
Wyness insisted he still feels the club and city council will agree a deal which will see the Midlands club remain at the City Ground.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I believe there is a way through this.
“There can be a win-win.
“I do believe that 45,000 or 50,000 built on the City Ground site would be fantastic.
“Moving out to Toton, outside Nottingham wouldn’t be a great decision.
“There would be some fans who wouldn’t go out there.
“I’ve had this issue at Everton, with moving out of the city centre to an area around four miles away – a lot of fans wouldn’t want to go,

“I understand the history and the heritage, and I completely get it.
“Both parties have got to come to their senses and keep Forest at the City Ground.”
