Nottingham Forest fans erupt as Vitor Pereira news emerges – ‘This has Edu all over it’

Vitor Pereira has emerged as a strong candidate to replace Sean Dyche at Nottingham Forest.

According to The Athletic journalist Paul Taylor, the former Wolves manager has already emerged as a “leading candidate” to take the reins at the City Ground in the aftermath of Dyche’s sacking.

Pereira has previously achieved success under the ownership of Evangelos Marinakis, who holds the 57-year-old in high regard after he led Olympiacos to a league and cup double in 2014-15.

Forest decided to part ways with Dyche after their 0-0 draw with Wolves on Wednesday night, a game which saw them fire a staggering 35 shots at their opponents’ goal.

The East Midlands outfit are now just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, and find themselves firmly in trouble as they prepare for their fourth permanent manager of the season.

Nottingham Forest fans in uproar over Vitor Pereira links

Pereira has been out of work since he was shown the door by Wolves back in November after a disastrous start to the season.

The Portuguese was sacked by the Black Country side at the 10-game mark of the game, and his team were sitting on just two points at that stage, while still waiting for their first Premier League win of 2025-26.

Forest’s own situation has grown increasingly precarious in recent weeks with West Ham beginning to show signs of life under Nuno Espirito Santo, and fans are panicking about how the next few months could play out.

Supporters have erupted on social media in relation to news of the interest in Pereira, with several taking to X to share their frustrations at the managerial link.

One fan suggested that the link has “Edu all over it,” and added that he has “ruined the club,” while another responded with “we are not a serious club.”

One Forest fan also feels that they “might as well pack in and start pre-season now” if Pereira is appointed, and another member of the fanbase even went as far as to suggest that they would rather see goalkeeper Angus Gunn take over.

Is Edu the root of the problems at Nottingham Forest?

Edu is Forest’s Global Head of Soccer under Marinakis’ ownership, and fans have regularly identified him as the source of the problems at the City Ground of late.

The former Arsenal chief has seemingly had a huge impact on their difficult campaign, not least when it comes to the unprecedented overturn of managers that has been seen in recent months.

The Brazilian’s high-profile falling out with Nuno ultimately spelt the end for his tenure back in September, despite the ex-Spurs boss being hugely popular among the fans.

Edu also dealt with the club’s transfer business last summer, and Igor Jesus has emerged as the only genuine starting option from their signings, despite a spend of around £180million.

That has prompted discontent from supporters towards the 47-year-old, with many believing that he has been the common denominator and the root cause of their issues.

Whether that is truly the case remains to be seen at the moment, but it could certainly be argued that Edu has played a more active role than is perhaps to be expected for someone in his position.
