Nottingham Forest fans rip into Montiel for what he did vs Sheffield United
Nottingham Forest fans never want to see Gonzalo Montiel back in the starting lineup after a “dreadful” moment vs Sheffield United.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side picked up a vital three points against the Blades at Bramall Lane to help their battle for Premier League survival.
The hosts opened the scoring via a Ben Brereton Diaz penalty after Montiel lost his footing and clumsily fouled the 25-year-old forward.
Forest fans on social media were fuming at Montiel for his mistake, with some supporters fearing that his error could cost the club their Premier League survival.
Montiel has only made 11 Premier League appearances for Forest this season and he was a surprise name in the starting lineup against Sheffield United.
Forest were able to overturn the deficit and take all three points from the match thanks to two goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi either side of Ryan Yates’ strike in the second half.
However, fans were still angry at Montiel for his mistake, with some hoping that he will be permanently dropped from the starting lineup.
After rescuing all three points against Sheffield United, Forest remain 17th but are now three points clear from Luton Town in the bottom three.
Forest can now turn their attention towards a Premier League clash against Chelsea at the City Ground next Saturday (11 May).
