Nottingham Forest fans savage Chris Wood after ‘shocking’ moment vs Chelsea

Nottingham Forest fans slammed Chris Wood for missing a huge chance in their 3-2 loss against Chelsea on Saturday evening (11 May).

The mood at the City Ground was jubilant ahead of kick-off with Forest on the verge of securing their top-flight status following Luton Town’s loss to West Ham.

However, Chelsea struck twice late on to deny Forest their survival celebrations at the City Ground.

Mykhailo Mudryk scored first for the visitors, but Forest drew level through Willy Boly and then went ahead when Callum Hudson-Odoi scored a curling effort against his former side.

But two goals in two minutes from Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson meant Chelsea stole all three points and kept their hopes of European qualification alive.

Prior to Chelsea’s quickfire double, though, Forest had a golden opportunity to score when Morgan Gibbs-White’s headed effort rebounded off the post and into Chris Wood in the six-yard box.

However, the 32-year-old – who has not scored since early April – mistimed his effort and sent the ball sailing over the crossbar.

Forest fans were quick to criticise the striker, with some supporters calling him “useless” and “awful”.

Forest finish their 2023-24 campaign at Turf Moor when they take on a relegated Burnley side next Sunday (19 May).
