Nottingham Forest have ‘blown away rivals after signing gems’
Nottingham Forest are proving a lot of people wrong following their outstanding first half of the season in the Premier League.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Forest are now reaping the rewards of their heavy spending despite previously going too far in the transfer market.
The Nottingham side were hit with a four-point deduction last season after breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability (PSR) rules.
That breach came after the club signed 22 new players in the summer of 2022 following their long-awaited promotion back to the Premier League.
Although Forest flirted with the relegation zone in the previous two campaigns, things are coming together at the City Ground this season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, five points above fifth-place Newcastle United.
Nottingham Forest have signed gems after heavy spending
Borson admitted Forest have found some gems following their previous dealings in the transfer market.
He told Football Insider: “They seem to be proving a lot of people wrong, don’t they?
“A lot of people laughed at their approach in the transfer market.
“I may have also suggested that they had taken it too far.
“I think that was validated by the fact they did get the points deduction and the charge, so I do think they did take it too far.
“But it seems to have worked out.

“I guess at the end of the day if you spend money on more than 20 players and you’re not buying rubbish, then by the time you get down to being able to cherry-pick the best of those players, it can work.
“They have obviously got some gems out of all of that spending that they did.
“The manager is also working out amazingly well.”
