Kieran Maguire: Nottingham Forest have just missed out on £10m windfall as deal agreed
Nottingham Forest have missed out on £10million because of their inability to find a paying front-of-shirt sponsor.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest news from behind the scenes at Forest.
Forest won promotion to the Premier League in 2021-22 with BOXT branding on their shirts, but that deal expired at the end of the campaign.
They have since failed to find a shirt sponsor, and they announced on Thursday (22 December) that they have now donated their sponsorship rights to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency.
Maguire saluted Forest for getting involved with a worthy cause but claimed they will ultimately be frustrated by their inability to find a lucrative commercial partnership.
“Nottingham Forest have been frustrated by their inability to find a front-of-shirt sponsor,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“The supposed asking price of £10m put a lot of people off. The club has therefore decided that they might as well get involved with a very worthy cause in the form of the Refugee Agency at a time of great trauma around the world.
“This is also reflective of the fact that sponsors normally want things in place for the start of the season.

“There is no doubt that Forest’s results have improved recently. But most clubs will only sign a multi-year deal if they are likely to be in the Premier League for a number of years.
“There has to be an element of doubt with Forest in respect of their top-flight status“
