Finance guru: Nottingham Forest have handed rivals ‘big advantage’ as PR blunder analysed
Nottingham Forest have handed an advantage to their Premier League peers with their failure to appoint a head of communications.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Premier League new boys’ quest to replace former comms chief Tom Rawlings.
Rawlings himself replaced Matt Appleby, who left the day after Forest were promoted to the top flight, back in June.

But he stepped down after just six weeks and Forest are yet to name his successor.
The Daily Mail reported last Friday (14 October) that they were set to appoint long-serving Liverpool spin doctor Joe Questier only to be knocked back at the last minute.
It is far from ideal that Forest, who are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League and facing questions about their transfer strategy, are yet to make an appointment, insists Plumley.
“The way I look at this is that isn’t an essential role to function day to day,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“But in the world we live in, it’s so important for commercial partnerships and how you communicate with the fans.

“If you don’t have one, you’re falling behind the clubs that do. You are losing that big competitive advantage off the pitch.
“It’s so important to deliver your message in the right way. This is particularly an issue in the Premier League. It might be less so in the Championship.”
