Nottingham Forest must sell two more stars straight away – Keith Wyness

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has claimed that Nottingham Forest will have to sell two players at the earliest opportunity to help tackle a growing amortisation bill.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested that Forest’s owed transfer installments will be a “recurring problem”.

Forest published their 2022-23 accounts to Companies House last Thursday (28 March) revealing a huge increase in revenue to £155million but an overall operating loss of £62million.

The excessive losses over the past three seasons resulted in Forest being charged with a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules which the club has since appealed.

Forest’s accounts also revealed that they still owe £41million in transfer installments – a stark increase from the £7million amortisation bill in their 2021/22 accounts.

As revealed by Football Insider, Nottingham Forest could be forced to sell their five best players this summer due to FFP demands.

It follows a period of heavy investment by the club with over 30 players signed since their promotion to the Premier League.

Wyness told Football Insider’s Inside Track:I think Forest have got issues.

The amortisation bill for Forest going forward is going to be the recurring problem for them every season.

They bought so many players and so many of those installments are pushed down the road.

It’ll be there for a long time and that’s going to give them a real hard job to actually try and get into numbers that are going to be compliant.

The Brennan Johnson transfer for around £47.5 million will certainly help them but they may have to look at another sale or two.
