Nottingham Forest news: O’Rourke shares ‘mental’ appeal update

Nottingham Forest will learn the verdict of their points deduction appeal by 25 May, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Reds would learn the outcome of their appeal late next month – after the conclusion of the Premier League season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were handed a four-point deduction last month after a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules over the three years up to and including the 2022-23 season.

They exceeded their allowable losses by £34.5million and were due to be handed a six-point deduction, but two points were removed due to their compliance with the investigation.

Nottingham Forest points deduction appeal hearing date emerges

Forest announced on 25 March that they would launch an appeal and they remain hopeful that they can have the deduction reduced or removed.

However, finance expert Kieran Maguire exclusively told Football Insider (2 April) that the club should only expect to receive one point back at most if their PSR appeal is successful.

O’Rourke noted that it would be “mental” if Forest do not learn the outcome of their appeal before the end of the season as clubs may be in relegation limbo.

“The appeal is ongoing,” O’Rourke told the Inside Track podcast.

“Forest have made their appeal and, like Everton, all the appeals need to be heard by 25 May and verdicts need to be given.

“This could drag on like Everton’s second charge and all decisions must be made by then – a week after the Premier League season ends.

“That’s mental as there could be a scenario where clubs don’t know what league they’re playing in.”
