Nottingham Forest news: Pundit ‘gobsmacked’ by sensational twist

Nottingham Forest caused plenty of surprise when they released an unexpected statement after their defeat against Everton on 21 April.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the former England and Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson admitted he was left “gobsmacked” in the press box at Goodison Park following Forest’s social media post.

The Premier League side controversially criticised the officials for failing to award them three penalties during the 2-0 loss against Everton.

The club claimed it had warned PGMOL before the game took place that VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton Town fan, but that it decided not to change the appointment.

Paul Robinson surprised by Nottingham Forest twist

Robinson noted that there have been conflicting reports about where the statement came from, but he believes those details will never come to light.

“I was sat in the press box and you would want to see the amount of chins that hit the floor when the statement went out,” he told the Inside Track podcast.

“I couldn’t believe it, I was absolutely gobsmacked.

“I think the statement was completely out of the blue and you’re not sure where it came from.

“You’re told through different sources the actual source of the statement and whether it was the media team that put it out, or whether they wanted to put it out, but we’ll never know where that’s come from.

“But to question the integrity of an official in the way that the club did, there were a lot of surprised faces in the press box.

“There were a lot of news journalists pressing delete and rewriting what they had done very quickly on their match reports.”
