Nottingham Forest player ratings v Man City – Ola Aina dazzles, 4/10 stinks
Nottingham Forest suffered a huge blow to their relegation chances as they lost 2-0 to Man City on Sunday (28 April).
Josko Gvardiol and Erling Haaland found the back of the net in either half of the Premier League clash at the City Ground.
Football Insider rates the Nottingham Forest players out of 10 for their performances in the loss to the Manchester outfit.
Matz Sels [6]
Sels was forced to be on his toes from the very start against a deadly City attack, and he did just that with some smart saves early on, only to be outdone by a smart Gvardiol header, with Haaland adding to his pain later on.
Neco Williams [6]
Williams was among the best players on the pitch for the majority of the first half, with the defender bombing forwards and causing City plenty of problems. He also registered a 100% pass success rate, but hugely frustratingly was forced off with injury after just 35 minutes.
Moussa Niakhate [5]
Niakhate was alive to the constant Man City threat, helping out his fellow defenders when required, but the game did largely pass him by, with the centre-back competing for just one duel, which he lost.
Willy Boly [7]
The City Ground faithful were glad to welcome back Boly from injury, and he certainly didn’t let them down, with the experienced centre-back producing a top individual display against some of the best attackers in world football, making a match-high eight tackles.
Murillo [6]
Murillo continued his strong debut season at the club with another fine display, with the defender playing a key role in limiting the number of good chances going to the City frontline, winning all three of his ground duels before injury forced him off the pitch with just over 15 minutes remaining.
Ola Aina [8]
Like Williams, Aina showed his attacking intent from the very first whistle at the City Ground, with the full-back constantly roaming forward to great effect. He also defended expertly, but it was his continuous successful runs into the final third that impressed home fans most, with Aina winning eight of his 13 duels.

Anthony Elanga [5]
Elanga really struggled to get to grips with the pace of the game, with the winger enduring a very quiet first half. His did, however, come alive after the break, but ultimately could not make a real impact.
Danilo [7]
The midfield ace was very tidy in possession, constantly using the ball well to set up Forest counters, as well as carrying out the defensive side of the game diligently, with four tackles made.
Morgan Gibbs-White [5]
Nottingham Forest’s undisputed player of the season was not at his best on home soil, with Gibbs-White finding it difficult against star midfielders Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.
Callum Hudson-Odoi [6]
Like Elanga, Hudson-Odoi was largely ineffective in the first half, but certainly improved as the game went on, continuously threatening the City defence with his pace and fine footwork.
Chris Wood [4]
It was always going to be quite a lonely afternoon at the City Ground for Wood given Man City’s ability to control possession. As always, however, he threatened when given the chance in the box, but will not want to look back at two glorious close range opportunities that he missed with his side 1-0 down.

Gonzalo Montiel [6]
Montiel was given plenty of minutes after coming on for Williams just after the half-hour mark, with the former filling the latter’s boots well in a busy display.
