Nottingham Forest plotting late Arnaut Danjuma swoop – sources

Nottingham Forest are plotting a move to sign Villarreal forward Arnaut Danjuma before 31 August, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Forest are exploring potential deals for more attacking options as they progress towards signing Eddie Nketiah.

The Spanish outfit are prepared to let Danjuma leave in the closing stages of the window following disappointing loan spells at Tottenham and Everton.

Forest are long-term admirers of the Netherlands international and are willing to give him another shot at Premier League football.

Sources say the forward is now looking for a permanent move rather than a loan as he searches for further stability in his career.

While Forest are prioritising the Nketiah deal as things stand, they may be tempted back into the transfer market before 31 August if Danjuma becomes available.

Nottingham Forest eye Arnaut Danjuma deal with Villarreal

Danjuma joined Villarreal from Bournemouth in 2021 in a deal worth £21million, but he has failed to establish himself as a key player in Spain.

After just 52 appearances in three years, having spent disappointing spells on loan at both Tottenham and Everton, the Yellow Submarine are prepared to see him leave.

Forest are already well-stocked in attacking areas. Assuming Nketiah signs, he will join Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi as the three striker options.

Out wide, meanwhile, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Anthony Elanga have been joined by the arrivals of Ramon Sosa, Eric Moreira and Jota Silva.

However, Nuno and Evangelos Marinakis are keen to bolster the quality of their squad and are prepared to move for new players should the opportunity arise.

Danjuma remains open to all possibilities in the closing stages of the transfer window, and may yet remain at Villarreal after he scored in their opening La Liga clash v Atletico Madrid.

In other news, Everton have been tipped to make a late swoop for Nketiah.
