Nottingham Forest points deduction could change after season has ended – sources

Nottingham Forest would not hear the verdict of a potential appeal until after the end of the 2023-24 season, Football Insider can reveal.

Forest were given a four-point deduction on Monday (18 March) following their breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules.

They were charged after exceeding their allowable losses by £34.5million over the past three years.

Forest now have a week to decide whether or not to appeal the decision.

If they choose to appeal, a verdict has been promised by 24 May – five days after Forest’s final Premier League game of the season against Burnley.

It means that any changes to their points deduction could impact the final league standings after all matches have been played.

Nottingham Forest points deduction saga could continue into summer

Everton successfully reduced their punishment down to six points after lodging an appeal against their initial 10-point deduction.

However, Football Insider revealed that there is a “disaster” scenario where Nottingham Forest could worsen their punishment by appealing the decision of their hearing.

The appeal would be heard by a new independent commission who have the opportunity to vary any penalty imposed meaning Forest could end up with more points deducted.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side dropped down into the relegation zone following their four-point deduction.

They trail Luton Town in 17th by one point with nine games remaining this season.
