Nottingham Forest set for shattering new points deduction blow – sources

Nottingham Forest will not see their points deduction reduced after their appeal, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke suggested that the Reds’ appeal will prove fruitless and they are set to keep their four-point deduction.

It is believed that Forest could have been handed another points deduction if the Premier League’s independent commission deemed the club’s reasoning for their appeal to be frivolous.

However, well-placed sources have told Football Insider that such an outcome is unlikely as Forest would not have launched their appeal if they believed this to be a possible outcome.

Nottingham Forest unlikely to hear positive appeal result

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were handed their four-point deduction last month for a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

They broke their allowed losses threshold for the three-year period to the 2022-23 season by £34.5million.

They lodged an appeal to the league on 28 March and a verdict has to be made by 25 May.

However, sources have told Football Insider (12 April) that they could learn the decision before this cut-off date.

Amid their troubles off the pitch and following years of heavy spending, the club could be forced to sell some of their key stars this summer.

Football Insider revealed (22 March) that Forest could sell their five best players if they are relegated or forced to sanction sales due to FFP demands, including Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga.
