Nottingham Forest ‘set for signing blizzard’ this month – ‘bang, incredible’
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis will do “everything he can” to improve the squad this month.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted transfers, both in and out, will be needed if Forest are to secure historic qualification for the Champions League.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit third in the Premier League table at the halfway point of the 2024-25 campaign after finishing just outside the bottom three last term.
The Midlands giants have beaten Liverpool, Man United, Tottenham and Aston Villa so far this season.
Forest only returned to the Premier League in 2022 and last played in Europe’s premier club competition in the 1980-81 season.
Marinakis will do ‘everything he can’ to improve Nottingham Forest squad, says Wyness
Wyness insisted he expects them to be busy in the winter transfer window, which shuts on 3 February.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I was thinking heading into January that Forest were just going to add one or two players to stay mid-table.
“But bang, here they are with a chance of Champions League football.
“Marinakis is not shy about operating in the transfer window.
“The PSR issue may be a bit closer than clubs like Arsenal, so there could be some trading out as well.
“I think Marinakis will try everything he can. They’ve got to improve the squad if they want to make it into the Champions League.

“They’ve been performing incredibly well, they’ve been reasonably lucky with injuries – so they’ll be looking to beef up the squad and finish strongly.
“It would be a fairy tale that ranks just behind Leicester. Marinakis is someone who loves a transfer, so I expect them to be busy.”
