Nottingham Forest slammed over ’embarrassing’ statement as update emerges
Nottingham Forest have been slammed for their “embarrassing” statement following the defeat against Everton.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke admitted Forest’s post on social media was “ill-judged” and is likely to have come from the club’s hierarchy rather than the media team.
There have been reports the club’s owner Evangelos Marinakis wanted to put the statement out at half-time criticising the match officials for their decisions in the 2-0 loss at Goodison Park.
Forest claimed they had warned PGMOL before the game took place that VAR official Stuart Attwell was a Luton Town fan, but that it decided not to change the appointment.
O’Rourke admitted he initially had sympathy with the club after they saw three controversial penalty appeals turned down in the game, but that quickly went out the window when they released the “dangerous” statement after the final whistle.
Nottingham Forest could receive punishment for statement
Forest have been widely condemned over the past week since they decided to publicly vent their frustrations towards the officials.
It’s so far unclear who the exact source of the statement is, but many believe it is likely to have come from Marinakis himself.
O’Rourke doesn’t believe there is a conspiracy against the Nottingham club and it was just a matter of mistakes being made on the day by the officials.

There could now be repercussions heading Forest’s way following the incident after the FA and the Premier League confirmed they are investigating the matter.
The last thing the club need is to receive further sanctions after they have already been deducted four points this season for breaching the league’s spending rules.
