Sources: Middlesbrough make move to sign Nottingham Forest star Sum Surridge

Middlesbrough are plotting a late move to sign Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge, sources have told Football Insider.

Boro are still in the market for striking reinforcements and former Bournemouth and Stoke forward Surridge has emerged on their radar.

The Championship club have registered their interest in the 24-year-old as they work on a last-gasp deal.

Surridge has come off the bench in three of Forest’s opening four Premier League games and he scored twice in the Carabao Cup win over Grimsby.

Surridge is under contract at the City Ground until 2024 having only signed from Stoke City for a reported £2.2million in January this year.

He scored seven and provided one assists in his 17 Championship apperances for Forest last term.

He made his name as an academy graduate at Bournemouth before his move to Stoke in August last year.

Competition for places up front for Forest has increased with the arrival of Taiwo Awoniyi, Emmanuel Dennis and Ui-jo Hwang this summer.

Surridge’s suitors Boro have themselves already added fellow strikers Marcus Forss and Mathew Hoppe to their garrison for a combined total of close to £6m this summer.

Brazilian centre-forward Rodrigo Muniz meanwhile has joined on loan from Fulham.

Only five teams have scored more than Chris Wilder’s side in the Championship this season, but Boro have won just once in their opening six matches and are 18th in the table.
