Nottingham Forest to back Sean Dyche in January? Expert drops resounding verdict

Nottingham Forest have endured a turbulent season so far with three separate managers having already taken charge at the City Ground.

Sean Dyche is the latest of those, having replaced Ange Postecoglou who himself was in the job for just 39 days after replacing Nuno Espirito Santo earlier this season.

Dyche’s side beat Leeds United 3-1 last time out, claiming their first league victory under the new boss, although they remain in the relegation zone as things stand.

Forest have always shown a willingness to back managers financially, having done so during the summer when they spent around £210million on new players.

However, given the level of control Evangelos Marinakis and Edu Gaspar have over the transfer policy, questions have been asked about Dyche’s backing.

Sean Dyche aims to secure Nottingham Forest backing

Football Insider revealed on 21 October that Nottingham Forest could be restricted in January as a result of their massive spending during the summer window.

However, while Dyche would be content to work with what he has, the boss is determined to bolster his squad and will seek backing from the ownership and recruitment team.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Forest could still strengthen in key positions when the window opens.

Of course, they’ll be planning for January already,” he told Football Insider.

“Dyche will have positions he feels they could improve in, or players he thinks don’t fit in with what he’s trying to do, because they came in under different managers.

“Then the question is about whether Forest are going to be prepared to back him in the window.

“There seems to be a disconnect at Forest, where the chairman and the sporting director decide what players they bring in and the manager has to get on with it.

“Dyche won’t have that, because he likes to have a degree of control over these things.

“There will be communication there to figure out what their plans are, because what he wants to do and what the club want to do might not line up.

“If they’re still in and around the relegation zone, I expect money will be made available, and hopefully that will be done with the manager having some say.”

Dyche is unlikely to get a big transfer budget in the January transfer window, but the club could be forced to spend if their performances continue to dip.

Nottingham Forest told to be careful after big spending

After they spent big during the summer transfer window, finance expert Dan Plumley told Football Insider that Nottingham Forest must be careful financially.

That comes a result of their recent domestic finishes, and while Marinakis is financially capable of bankrolling the club, their revenue may not add up.

Europa League football has provided Forest with additional room to spend, but after their recent PSR breach, they must ensure they remain within their limitations.

The big-money signings of players like Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee during the summer have seen Forest push their limits, and could now impact their future dealings.

As a result, Dyche may be unable to secure the backing he wants in January, despite concerns about the club’s league position and players who don’t suit his style.
