‘Nottingham Forest to battle Arsenal for Viktor Gyokeres’ in ‘ridiculous’ update

Viktor Gyokeres is a hot topic ahead of the summer transfer window and Nottingham Forest are being tipped to challenge for his signature.

With 86 goals and 26 assists in 93 appearances for Sporting CP, the Sweden international has caught the attention of clubs all over Europe, with many expecting him to come to the Premier League soon.

Despite links with his previous manager, Ruben Amorim, now at Man United, Football Insider understands that Arsenal can afford to sign Gyokeres without worrying about PSR restrictions.

However, Forest are now being included in the conversation for big-name signings due to their standing in the Premier League table, and Michael Dawson believes that the City Ground could be the Sporting CP star’s next destination this summer.

Nottingham Forest to battle for Viktor Gyokeres’ signature

Speaking live via Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (5 April, 12:15pm), Dawson said: “If they get in the Champions League, they’ll go again. Thinking of the players they’ll look at, I believe they’ll be in the Gyokeres bracket.

“People are questioning whether he’ll go to Arsenal, but Nottingham Forest will be in that bracket, and they will spend the money. Merson is looking at me like I’ve said something ridiculous, but I’m telling you. I’d put [Matheus] Cunha in that bracket.

“This owner will go out there to do everything. I’ve seen it hands-on. Of course, you’d go to Arsenal. Nottingham Forest’s season could be a one-off freak, I don’t know. But this owner really believes.

“He wants success, and he’s bringing it. He won’t stop.”

Nuno Espirito Santo to turn City Ground into a fortress

Having now won Manager of the Month three times at the City Ground, it is clear why Forest are trying to tie Nuno Espirito Santo down to a new contract and reward him for his accomplishments.

The Reds’ form is certainly down to some of the brilliant signings over the last couple of seasons, with Chris Wood being one of the most important players so far this term.

Even despite his talents in front of goal, if Forest want to be challenging in the Champions League next season, Evangelos Marinakis will need to invest heavily during the summer transfer market.

It is unknown exactly how much signing Gyokeres will set any club back at the end of the season, but with his current deal in Portugal expiring in 2028, it will certainly not be cheap.

The likes of Taiwo Awoniyi, Ibrahim Sangare and Harry Toffolo are the kind of players who will need to be instantly upgraded should Forest qualify for Europe this season, and that will come at a hefty price.

Given how passionate Marinakis is at The City Ground, though, it is impossible to rule Forest out of the chase for big-money signings, such as Sporting’s Gyokeres.
