Nottingham Forest to sign two ‘star attractions’ this summer – ‘PSR can’t stop them’
Nottingham Forest look set to play Champions League football next season after only narrowly avoiding relegation in the 2023-24 campaign.
The Midlands giants have enjoyed a meteoric rise under the ownership of Evangelos Marinakis, who bought the club in 2017.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit third in the Premier League table with five English clubs guaranteed Champions League qualification next term.
Forest have had to curb their spending in the past after issues with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) – which saw them deducted points last season.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted PSR “won’t be an issue” for them this summer.

Nottingham Forest ‘must strengthen’ this summer
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness believes Forest can move for “a couple of star attractions” in the upcoming summer window.
Espirito Santo’s side have proved light in attack in recent weeks following injuries to Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi.
Position | Team | Played | Points | GD |
1 | Liverpool | 31 | 73 | 42 |
2 | Arsenal | 31 | 62 | 30 |
3 | Nottingham Forest | 31 | 57 | 14 |
4 | Chelsea | 31 | 53 | 17 |
5 | Newcastle United | 31 | 53 | 13 |
Wyness claimed Forest will have PSR capacity to do deals – but have proven they no longer need to “go mad” in the market.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It’s been a great success story for Marinakis.
“We’ve watched him over the last few seasons, he’s fought tooth and nail to get them up the divisions.
“He’s been a fighter and warrior in the way he’s attacked some of the problems.
“With Champions League revenue looking almost assured, and a cup run – they are looking ok for PSR right now.
“There’ll be some player trading. Forest have proven they don’t have to go mad any more, but we could see a couple of star attractions come in this summer.
“Don’t underestimate their ability to go into the market.
“Nuno is going to have a very strong squad, but he will have to strengthen for the Champions League.
“We’ll watch them go forward – and it won’t be a PSR issue that stops them from doing that. Good luck to them.”

Nottingham Forest prepare ambitious Cunha swoop
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (5 April) that Nottingham Forest are ready to show their ambition with a swoop for Wolves star Matheus Cunha.
Espirito Santo’s side could break their transfer record to sign the Brazil international – if they secure Champions League qualification for next season.
The Midlands giants will face stiff competition for Cunha’s signature in the summer transfer window – with the forward available via his £62.5million release clause.
