Nottingham Forest told to bin Mark Clattenburg after probe update – Wyness
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Nottingham Forest should end the “Mark Clattenburg experiment” after their social media outburst.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the referee consultant has “taken it too far”.
Nottingham Forest fell to a crucial 2-0 loss away at Everton on Sunday (21 April) and were on the wrong end of multiple controversial refereeing decisions.
The club released a statement on X just minutes after full-time, claiming they had “warned” the PGMOL that VAR official Stuart Atwell “is a Luton fan” and claimed they are “considering options” going forward.
Clattenberg, who was at the game in a consultancy role for Forest, doubled down on those comments in a Daily Mail column later on Sunday.
Mark Clattenburg ‘experiment’ should end at Nottingham Forest, says Wyness
Forest are under investigation from the Premier League for their public statements and conduct.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It’s a very interesting experiment because he’s the first in this kind of role.
“So it’s been interesting to see how it’s developed. With the history of poor decisions Forest have had, it was a good appointment on paper.
“There’s certainly a need to have a liaison with the PGMOL. If it’s done positively and constructively, there is a need for that role.
“It could be good for the game.

“But he’s taken it too far with the name-calling and the talk of allegiances. I think the experiment, with Clattenburg at least, could end here.
“He’s got a big past himself for contentious decisions, so it’s just the pot calling the kettle black.”
