Big update on Nuno to Tottenham as whispers intensify after Wolves exit

Tottenham have no plans to interview departing Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo, Football Insider understands.

The Midlands giants announced on Friday afternoon that the Portugese is leaving by mutual consent after four years in charge.

That prompted widespread speculation that Nuno’s departure has paved the way for him to take over the vacant Tottenham manager post.

But a Spurs source has told Football Insider that Nuno is not a contender to replace his countryman Jose Mourinho.

His departure from Wolves is not related to the north Londoners’ interview process.

Intriguingly, Nuno’s super-powerful agent Jorge Mendes has not been pushing for his client to take over Tottenham.

As revealed by Football Insider on 10th May, the brilliantly-connected Mendes is keen for Nuno to take over at a club with greater financial resources and ambition that Wolves or Spurs.

Neither are expected to be big spenders in this summer’s market, although that could change for Tottenham if Harry Kane were to be sold.

Mendes is instead plotting to transfer Nuno to a club like Aston Villa, who are gearing up for another major recruitment drive.

Dean Smith’s long-term position at Villa Park is not believed to be secure and the billionaire owners Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris have huge ambition as well as deep pockets.

Mendes has a reputation for being one step ahead of everyone else and has a remarkable track record of securing the best deal and move for his clients.

Nuno took over in May 2017 and catapulted Wolves from the middle of the Championship and into Europe via successive Premier League seventh-place finishes.
