The chances of Arsenal keeping hold of French international Olivier Giroud have tumbled as the odds have been slashed on him moving to Premier League rivals Chelsea.
WestHam, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea have all been linked with the lofty striker but it would appear that Chelsea are winning the battle and that his exit is now looking more and more likely.
According to the latest betting odds on SkyBet, Chelsea are 8/11 to sign the Gunners forward which would make Giroud’s chances of staying at the Emirates this transfer window slight.
Arsenal are understood to want a fee of £35million to allow the Frenchman – who has seven goals to his name this season – to leave the club.
There were suggestions that Giroud was going to used as part of a potential swap deal that would see Pierre Emerick Aubameyang arrive in north London while the forward headed in the opposite direction to the Bundesliga. However, that now looks unlikely.
Football Insider verdict:
It is looking increasingly likely that by the time the January transfer window closes on Wednesday night, Giroud will no longer be an Arsenal player. After finding his opportunities limited at the Emirates this season and starting just one Premier League game this season, the mounting transfer speculation does seem to carry some weight to it. Blues manager Antonio Conte has been frequently linked with big, physical forwards during the transfer window and Giroud certainly comes into that bracket. Andy Carroll and Edin Dzeko were mooted as options for the Chelsea boss, but interest in them seems to have waned with Giroud’s supposed availability.
