A bizarre moment in Tottenham vs Leeds raised the question of what Spurs would do without both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min – crumble, according to Darren Bent.
The 79-time Tottenham striker gave his opinion to Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams after Kane and Son fell to the floor at the same time on Saturday, a nightmarish sight for Spurs fans.
Luckily, both were on their feet again in seconds, but it did raise the question of what Jose Mourinho would do if both of his star forwards were to be sidelined.
Bent believes that such a double-blow would throw 4th place Spurs well off course, but the same would be true of any team losing two of their best players.
He told Football Insider: “That moment in the Leeds game where they both went down, it was a bit like ‘Oh… What happens now?’
“If Kane and Son were to be injured, that could derail Spurs’ season massively. That’s not because they don’t have good players; they do. But they haven’t got players on the level that Kane and Son are on at the moment. Those two are on a different planet.
“They’re playing really well, no fear, exciting, electric, pace. Everything you want from a frontline, they’re doing it. They’re part of a front three, but it’s those two who are getting all the plaudits because of how well they’re playing.
“Listen, if you take two fo the players out of any team, they’re gonna struggle. You have teams like Liverpool where Salah might get injured and Jota can come straight in, but that’s not normal.”
Son and Kane have now scored well over 300 Spurs goals between them.
This season, they have taken things to a new level, equalling Chris Sutton and Alan Shearer’s record for assists between two players over a full season in just 16 games (13).
