Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s odds slashed for Premier League return as Nottingham Forest frontrunners emerge

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been outlined as one of the early contenders to be appointed as the next Nottingham Forest manager.

The Norwegian has been established among the leading candidates for the role by one major bookmaker, who have slashed his odds of taking charge at the City Ground down to 7/1 after Sean Dyche’s sacking.

The 54-year-old was axed after the Reds laboured to a goalless draw with the Premier League’s bottom club Wolves on Wednesday night, leaving them with just one win from their last five league games.

Attention has quickly turned towards who could be in line to replace the departed boss, with Solskjaer’s name already being mooted as a strong possibility.

Who else is in the early running for the Nottingham Forest job?

Solskjaer has been away from Premier League management since he was sacked by Manchester United back in November 2021, but Forest could be about to change that in the coming days.

The East Midlands side are being linked with a move for the former striker, who has been out of work since he was shown the door by Besiktas at the end of August after defeat in the play-offs for the UEFA Conference League.

The Manchester United legend is currently viewed as the second likeliest candidate to take charge at Forest by one major bookmaker, with Vitor Pereira priced as the leading option at odds of 1/4.

Thomas Frank and Marco Silva are also likely to be on the Reds’ radar in the eyes of the bookmakers, while even the likes of Erik ten Hag and Frank Lampard are expected to potentially come under consideration.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s managerial record in the Premier League

Solskjaer led United to their best league finish in the last seven seasons when he guided his team to second place in the Premier League back in 2020-21, and his reign at Old Trafford showed plenty of promise at times.

He quickly built up a strong rapport with the supporters, aided by his previous exploits as a player, and led them into the Champions League in both of his two full campaigns at the helm.

The United hierarchy eventually pulled the trigger on him with the team sat seventh in November 2021, but he still had plenty of time left to turn their fortunes around that season.

Nevertheless, Solskjaer’s record at United still ended with a favourable outlook for him, as he ended his duties with a win percentage of almost 55 per cent across both his permanent and caretaker spells.

His win percentage in the Premier League in general stands at over 46 per cent, and is hampered slightly by an ill-fated spell at Cardiff City in 2014.
